University of Greenwich opens doors of Wren gem to celebrate architecture festival
The University of Greenwich is throwing open the doors of its Greenwich Campus on Sunday, September 21 as part of the capital-wide architecture festival, London Open House. University staff will be leading guided tours inside three of the key buildings of Sir Christopher Wren’s Old Royal Naval College, as well as the neighbouring Dreadnought Library and Devonport Mausoleum.

Almost 2,000 telephone enquiries were dealt with by lunchtime today at the University of Greenwich Clearing Centre. Admissions officers and specially-trained students have been answering calls since midnight from applicants hoping to snap up remaining places on the university’s courses.

Three quarters of young people surveyed are unaware of eligibility for student grants according to YouGov
Three quarters of young people surveyed are unaware that students are entitled to a maintenance grant if their household income is under £60,000, according to YouGov research released today (Wednesday, August 13, 2008) by the University of Greenwich. Only 12% of young people surveyed can correctly identify that they are entitled to at least a partial grant if their family income falls below £60,000. Almost two thirds (64%) did not guess correctly that the maximum grant is £2,800 and a further 1 in 4 (28%) do not know what they are really entitled to. In fact, students from households with incomes up to £25,000 qualify for the maximum grant and those from a household with an income up to £60,005 are entitled to a partial grant.

The University of Greenwich is researching whether low income groups can get a better deal from gas and electricity companies, after years of paying extra. Consumers’ watchdog energywatch has commissioned the university to compare the way low income and other vulnerable groups get charged across six essential services and products, to see if the energy market can learn from other markets how to ensure the poorest customers get a fair deal.

The University of Greenwich has won government funding to develop a partnership with one of the largest higher education providers in Malaysia to increase the supply of skilled engineers. Chelsea Flower Show winner honoured by University of Greenwich
The award-winning garden designer Sarah Eberle has today (Monday, July 14) received an honorary doctorate from the University of Greenwich. The accolade is in recognition of Sarah’s professional achievements which include scooping the prestigious title of Best in Show at last year’s RHS Chelsea Flower Show for her futuristic garden based on the planet Mars. Altogether Sarah has won nine coveted Gold Medals from the Royal Horticultural Society – most recently at last week’s Hampton Court show. She also won the British Association of Landscape Industries’ Grand Award last year.
